A Cozy MOUNTAIN Retreat
The Scope:
Full Service Interior Design
The intent:
This family condo, nestled at the base of Beaver Creek, needed a design that would brighten the interior and connect it to the breathtaking outdoor scenery. Serving as a vacation retreat for a large extended family, the space needed to balance functionality with warmth. The goal was to create a kitchen that encourages lively family gatherings while maintaining a sense of intimacy for quieter moments, like curling up on the couch for a movie night. With the family’s love for skiing, the design also focused on crafting a cozy fireside area where they could unwind over a glass of wine after a day on the slopes.
the Setting:
A ski-in, ski-out condo in Beaver Creek, CO
the Mood:
Cozy, inviting, homey, peaceful, warm.
The Opportunity:
Built in 1989, this condo presented a wonderful opportunity to breathe new life into its open living and kitchen space. The existing maple wood cabinets and dark blinds made the space feel smaller than it was and offered a starting point for a brighter, more modern transformation. Updating the worn carpet throughout was a chance to refresh the flooring and enhance the overall feel of the space. Additionally, reimagining the small kitchen opened the door to creating a more functional and inviting area, perfect for preparing and sharing larger family meals.

The Resolution:
The transformation began by replacing the outdated maple cabinets with light gray shaker-style cabinetry, bringing a fresh and modern feel to the kitchen. To enhance functionality and create a more open visual flow, we replaced the peninsula with a single, expansive counter-height surface in durable white quartz. This not only provided ample prep space but also served as an additional seating area. The new cabinetry was thoughtfully designed with space-saving features and storage for the family’s frequently used small appliances, maximizing efficiency.
Throughout the condo, we replaced the worn carpet and tile with stunning French oak flooring, featuring a natural wire-brushed finish to enhance durability and effortlessly mask any wear and tear from ski boots. Walls were painted in Benjamin Moore Dove Wing, creating a soft and inviting backdrop, while the window frames were refreshed with a sleek coat of Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron, adding contrast and character. In the living room, the beloved wood-burning fireplace became a focal point. Rather than replacing it, we celebrated the existing riverstone hearth by painting the mantle and built-in bookcase in the same Wrought Iron shade, giving the space a contemporary yet cozy vibe.
The color palette throughout the condo was light and airy, with a mix of creams, blues, and tans. In the living room, we introduced a spacious slipcover sectional upholstered in high-performance fabric, two swivel chairs for added comfort, and versatile stools that doubled as footrests or extra seating. The heavy blinds were swapped out for modern roller shades, perfect for managing the intense sunlight while still maintaining the bright and open feel.
This thoughtful renovation transformed the condo into a bright, inviting retreat that perfectly balances modern style with family-friendly functionality.
