GAME-DAY Ready

The Scope:

Full Service Interior Design

The intent:

The intent of this design project was to transform a newer home's finished basement den, currently an empty and uninspired space, into a vibrant, functional retreat that reflects the family’s lifestyle. With the basement also containing two bedrooms and a bathroom, it was important to also create a space for upcoming guests.

the Setting:

A single family home in Edwards, CO

the Mood:

Cozy, inviting, family-friendly.

The Opportunity:

The goal is to create a dual-purpose area: a cozy and inviting space for family movie nights and football games, as well as a creating a private retreat for guests to unwind and feel at home.

To achieve this, the design will incorporate built-ins to add character and functionality, providing stylish storage while framing an electric fireplace and a large TV as the centerpiece for entertainment. A generously sized, comfortable couch will anchor the seating area, offering plenty of room for the family to relax together and act as an extra space for guests to relax when they come to visit. Thoughtful details like layered lighting, soft textiles, and a warm color palette will enhance the cozy ambiance.

The Resolution:

To reimagine the layout of the room, we shifted the focal point 90 degrees to the longer wall, making better use of the space and creating a more inviting atmosphere as you come down the stairs. This new orientation not only maximized functionality but also established a balanced flow that naturally draws the eye to the room's centerpiece.

To bring this vision to life, we collaborated with our general contractor, who coordinated seamlessly with a master carpenter, painter, and electrician. For the floating shelves and bench, we selected durable and elegant French oak, adding warmth and resilience. To set the mood, we painted the feature wall in Benjamin Moore’s Black Horizon, introducing a modern, dramatic element that still harmonized beautifully with the surrounding walls in Coventry Gray, creating a cohesive and sophisticated color palette.

The fireplace surround was given a sleek yet tactile finish with smooth plaster, offering a subtle texture that adds visual interest without overpowering the design. Built-in shelves were custom-crafted to frame the fireplace and TV, and we added hidden undershelf lighting to enhance depth and provide a soft glow. These lights, along with the electric fireplace, were integrated into Google Home for convenient and intuitive control.

The result is a thoughtfully designed, multi-functional space that seamlessly blends modern elegance with comfort and practicality. Whether for cozy family movie nights, watching the big game, or welcoming guests, this room now exudes both style and warmth, perfectly meeting the family’s needs.
